Reverse cycle ducted air conditioning systems (or central air conditioning) provide discreet air conditioned comfort throughout your entire home. The ducted system can be installed in a new home or tailored to suit an existing one, and once installed only the controller, the return air grill and discharge vents are visable inside your home.

A split central ducted reverse cycle system is in 2 main parts

  1. An air handling unit (indoor unit) which can be in the roof space for a ducted system
  2. The condenser (outdoor unit) which needs good ventilation around it and is usually positioned against an outside wall of the home away from the area to be cooled. The outside unit will make some noise, therefore you will want to position it to comply with any council regulations to not annoy neighbours.

The split system is the main type in use today as opposed to a “package” or “all in one unit” which is rarely used except in very rare circumstances due to noise and many other limitations.

Split ducted systems are available in both inverter and fixed speed systems. “Inverter” units have a variable output which is ideal for cooling. “Fixed speed” units are a great choice for both cooling and also where heating is a priority. The modern fixed speed with inverter hybrid systems offer the best of both worlds.

Split ducted systems are designed to give cooling and heating with the least inside noise and provide the most (even) coverage from a system of a given size. A ducted system will often provide comfort to more than 1 area at a time and as a result are suited to homes needing whole home or muti-room solutions.
